5 MINUTE QUICKIES #2 MAKING A REALISTIC TONGUE

Making a realistic tongue couldn't be easier. There are two methods i use depending on the sculpture i am working on. My main method is as follows.

STEP 1:
Take one or two tubes that work with the size of the project your working on. Squash the tubes then tape together. Trim one end into a suitable tongue end shape then tape down the edges.

STEP 2:
Coat the whole thing in un-dilluted glue, then dip & roll it in small wood chippings like the type used in smnall rodent cages. If you are making a very small tongue the run the chippings through a blender briefly to refine them more.

STEP 3:
paint the tongue in the colours of your choice then when fully dry coat in un-dilluted PVA glue. When the PVA dries it turns transparant leaving a wonderful saliva coated tongue effect as you can see below. Two good thick coatings will give the finish just enough depth & leave the roughness showing throuh like a real tongue.

  1. Simplicity is always a great way to go & often produces the most impressive results i find. Thank you for the comment.
